Homage to the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Self-Awakened One (three times). — [Folk preamble] One who longs for a child gains a child; one who longs for wealth gains wealth; through the body’s own means, and being dear to the devas… Such indeed is the Blessed One; King Yama, Lord Vessavaṇa; death, ease, the Worthy One, the Well-Gone — homage to the Buddha.

The Buddhas, having come to the seat of victory, having conquered Māra together with his mount — those bulls among men who drank the essence-nectar of the Four Noble Truths —

the twenty-eight Buddhas, the Leaders beginning with Taṇhaṅkara — all these sovereign Sages are established upon my head.

The Buddha is established on my head, the Dhamma upon my two eyes, the Saṅgha — the mine of every virtue — is established in my chest.

Anuruddha is in my heart, Sāriputta on my right, Koṇḍañña at my back, and Moggallāna on my left.

In my right ear are Ānanda and Rāhula; Kassapa and Mahānāma are both in my left ear.

Along my back, at the ends of my hair, sits the glorious sage Sobhita, radiant like the shining sun, the bull among sages.

The elder Kumārakassapa — great sage, brilliant of speech — is ever established in my mouth, that mine of virtue.

Puṇṇa, Aṅgulimāla, Upāli, Nanda, and Sīvalī — these five elders arise as an auspicious mark upon my forehead.

The remaining eighty great elders, victorious disciples of the Victor — these eighty great elders, conquerors, sons of the Victor, blazing with the majesty of virtue, are established across the parts of my body.

The Ratana Sutta is before me, the Metta Sutta to my right, the Dhajagga behind me, the Aṅgulimāla paritta on my left.

The Khandha and Mora parittas and the Āṭānāṭiya Sutta form a canopy in the sky; the remaining suttas stand as a rampart.

The Victors, joined with the diverse excellences (of the suttas) and arrayed as a sevenfold rampart — may all misfortunes arising from wind, bile and the like, outer and inner,

be dispelled without remainder by the boundless majesty of the Victor, as I dwell attending to my duties, always within the Cage of the Awakened One.

As I dwell in the midst of the Victor’s Cage upon this earth, may all these great, noble beings ever protect me.

Thus am I utterly guarded, well protected. By the Buddha’s power, calamities are conquered; by the Dhamma’s power, the host of foes is conquered; by the Saṅgha’s power, dangers are conquered. Guarded by the power of the True Dhamma, I fare within the Victor’s Cage.
